Export shrimp prices in Ecuador sharply declined in July 2023

China remains the top importing market, although the volume in July decreased by 4% to 53,272 tons due to a 28% decrease in value. China's export price also decreased by 25% to $4.62/kg. In the first 7 months of the year, shrimp exports to China increased by 32% in volume to 428,863 tons but only increased by 9% in value due to an 18% decrease in the average export price to China, down to $5.11/kg.

Exports to the United States decreased by 7% in volume to 17,938 tons and decreased by 23% in value due to a 17% decrease in the average export price to $5.95/kg. In the first 7 months of 2023, shrimp exports to the United States decreased by 3% in volume to 114,006 tons and decreased by 16% in value, with the average export price decreasing by 13% to $6.20/kg.

Exports to Spain, Italy, and France also increased in July but decreased in value due to lower prices. Exports to Belgium and Greece increased by 200% in volume but decreased in value by more than 10%.

 

In July, Ecuador exported 100,172 tons of frozen shrimp worth $504 million, with an average export price decreasing by 21% to $5.03/kg.

Exports to Russia decreased by 39% in volume to 1,203 tons and decreased by 52% in value in July amid a challenging economic situation. In the first 7 months of the year, exports to Russia increased by 52% to 11,616 tons, although the value only increased by 29% due to a 15% decrease in the average export price to Russia, down to $4.95/kg.

The reason for the declining export prices is attributed to lower shrimp prices at the pond.
